Drinking Water Week continues! Water is an essential element to survival, and there may not be a more important time to have safe drinking water than in the days following a disaster.
What can you do in advance to prepare? The first step: Locate the master valve in your home, mark it with a bright colored tag and learn how to turn it off and on. Show the whole family! As a backup (or if you do not have a master valve) find your water meter in your yard and practicing shutting off the water. Store tap water at your home in clean plastic containers. Stock at least one gallon of water per person per day for 3-5 days.
Follow these guidelines from the Department of Health on storing and treating your emergency water supply.
