It's Thanksgiving week, and a great time to remind you to help keep fat out of our sewers. When grease, fats, and oils are put down the sink, they stick to the insides of sewer pipes both on your property, and under the streets. This builds up over time and can block entire portions of your home’s plumbing system as well as block the District’s sewer lines. Garbage disposals don’t keep grease out of plumbing.
Do your part to reduce the amount of grease that gets into our sewer systems by not pouring grease or oils down sink drains or into toilets, scraping grease into a can or the trash, putting strainers in sink drains to catch food scraps, and wiping all dishes, pots, and pans with a paper towel prior to washing them. Thank you!
